How To Alter A Book
Altered Book Project
As a child I was always drawing, painting, or creating something. In high school my art skills were developed with excellent instructors in my public school teaching me life-long tools which I still use today. In 1987 I earned a degree in Elementary Education with an Art Teaching minor from Western Oregon State College. After teaching first grade for five years at Yamhill Grade School, I began a family of five children whom I’ve home educated for the last 15 years.
Since college I have taken several watercolor classes at community colleges and others venues. I have also had the privilege of attending week-long workshops taught by professional watercolor artists Jan Kunz, Judy Morris, and Judi Betts. As a busy mother I don’t have hours to devote to painting, but I still enjoy painting in travel journals as well as doing occasional small paintings. I have taught many watercolor classes to hundreds of children and adults over the past 10 years. I love helping others learn to create artwork and hope they grow to enjoy it as much as I do.
I sell cards with prints of my paintings on them. On the back of each card I include a Scripture verse. Sometimes the painting is inspired by a verse. I include the verse to spread the love of Christ. I think of the Bible verse as a nugget of truth to the receiver. Painting helps me focus on God’s creation and the subtle beauty all around us. He is the ultimate creator and artist and I want to give all glory and honor to Him.
